Wal-Mart, Target, and Home Depot are selling plastic barrels online.
The new prices are lower than the prices at specialty stores, like Lowe’s and Home Improvement, but are still significantly higher than prices at large retailers like Costco, Walmart, and Target.
These prices are the result of a deal between the two major retailers that allows stores to charge customers a flat rate on plastic barrels, which can be reused after they are purchased.
Walmart’s deal has also given the discount store chain the ability to sell the plastic barrels in bulk.
Wal-mart, Target’s parent company, said in an e-mailed statement that the deal is an important part of its business strategy.
“Target is committed to providing quality products to our customers and to reducing the waste that occurs when these products are being purchased,” the company said.
Walmart said that it will continue to work with Lowe’s, Home Improvement and other specialty retailers to provide customers with the lowest prices for plastic barrels.
“Lowe’s, Target and Home Equity Partners are excited to partner with Wal-Marts to lower prices on plastic barrel purchases,” a Lowe’s spokeswoman said in a statement.
Home Depot said in its statement that it was pleased to be working with Walmart to reduce the prices of its plastic barrels as well.
“Home Depot will continue its efforts to support Wal-Macs plastic barrel program, which we believe is an excellent value for customers and the environment,” Home Depot spokeswoman Amy R. Kallman said.
